Description
This is an original acrylic on canvas. This is the third painting in a series of paintings of increasing abstraction, the two previous ones were smaller pieces which were not quite as clean and abstract as this one. But this third version was the closest to my initial sketch of the scene, as I was gaining artistic courage to go more abstract on a painting. I used a photo of a real farm that I had taken west of Appleton, Wisconsin.
It is because of this scene that I had developed my square cow design, as a distraction from everything pointing towards the center. With my cow, I was mimicking the checkerboard design on the top of the silos. The first painting of the series was also the very first painting that had ever done that had my square cow in it.
The title "As The Crow Flies" refers to the perspective lines that converge in the center, which to me seems to suggest a view of a bird flying swiftly towards the farm.
